Rangers Put Sean Avery On Waivers

[Blueshirt Banter]  According to Larry Brooks, the New York Rangers will be waiving forward, Sean Avery. This may come as bit of surprise to some people, as it did to me. It was noted yesterday that both, Sean Avery and Erik Christensen were fighting for the last and final spot in the line-up. Although the way Christensen performed over in Europe wasn’t surprising, it was enough for John Tortorella to keep him. My thoughts are that Avery should have easily made it on the team over Christensen. Avery came out flying in the two preseason games he was in, and he was noticeable on the ice. As opposed to Christensen, who seemed lazy, missed wide open opportunities and was less physical than Avery. I’m not the coach, but I still believe Avery should be on this team instead of Christensen. The Rangers were left with one final roster cut, and it looks like it will be Sean Avery. Pierre LeBrun stated that Avery’s agent, Pat Morris, confirmed that his client will be placed on waivers later today. He also stated that if Avery clears, he will be exploring his options in Europe.

Well I, for one, will miss the dude.  Sure, he’s had a controversial career on & off the ice, most recently shoving fat little pigs out of his front door after trying to break up his party & being called a ‘fuckin’ faggot‘ by a black player who was ironically victim of a racist banana peel just days earlier.  I get it.  But you kinda need a crazy pest on your team.  I mean the decision was down to either he or Erik Christensen – that’s a no-brainer hockey-wise.  So clearly the Blueshirts made a decision to distance themselves from the NHL’s ‘bad boy’ and, instead, keep Christensen who’s really got no role except shootouts I guess.  Avery’s one of those guys that you despise unless he’s on your team.  He’s a time bomb on the ice and clearly has a knack for getting under opponents’ skin a la Esa Tikkanen or Theo Fleury.  He’ll also contribute on the scoreboard.  Yeah sometimes he’s dirty but it’s not like he’s the first and only scumbag ever to lace a pair of skates. He’s never Bertuzzi’d anyone – he’s just an annoying asshole, but a heart & hustle guy I think is overall a good piece to a winning squad.

I don’t know if he’s run himself out of the NHL, but I doubt it.  He’ll catch on somewhere else, and it’ll be interesting to see who the first Ranger is to beat the shit out of him.  Farewell, fruitcake.
